Welcome — this page is the best place to begin if you’re new to my work.

I’m Madeleine, a memoirist, artist, author, archivist and diarist. I went to art school and graduated in 1986 with a degree in Fine Art, and have written many books, from fiction to factual projects. I have come to learn that trauma has fuelled my creativity.

For more than forty years I’ve kept detailed diaries, created artwork and researched my family history. These records led me to uncover the truth about my toddlerhood at the age of 51 — a discovery that shattered everything I believed about myself.

This blog brings together my research. I’ve written from that journey. It explores childhood trauma, identity, memory, twinhood, creativity and the ways early experiences shape the adult self. You’ll find diary excerpts, artwork, essays and a 10‑part narrative series that tells the story of how the truth emerged.

Where to begin

Start with the Prologue, which introduces the beliefs I held about myself before the truth surfaced.

From there, you can follow the 10‑part series that tells the story leading to the moment I learned what happened in my early childhood.

You can also find the full reading order at the bottom of this page.
